Changing Remote Setting to CEC

As a Roku remote is a universal, it is important to change the remote setting from “IR Setup” to “CEC Setup”, so that only one remote specific remote controls the TV. This way TV/Roku’s in a shared space can only be controlled by remote- i.e. patient rooms or wards with multiple TV’s in close proximity to one another

Written Steps

  1. Using the Roku remote, navigate to the “Settings” menu and press enter
  2. Navigate to the “Remotes and Devices” menu and press enter
  3. Navigate to the “Remotes” menu and press enter
  4. Navigate to the “Voice Remote pro” (or other default remote name) menu and press enter
  5. Navigate to the “Set up remotes for TV control” menu and press enter
  6. Select “CEC setup” (if not already selected) and follow on screen promotes to finish setup
  7. The remote is now setup to only control 1 TV and Streaming device
    1. This avoids the issue having remotes that control multiple TVs in the same room

CEC not an Option, Run an Update

If you encounter and issues or CEC is not an option to select, you have to run an update on the Roku Device. This can be done by following the video or steps outlined below:

Written Steps

  1. Using the Roku remote, navigate to “Settings”, then press ok/enter
  2. Go to “System”, then press ok/enter
  3. scroll down to “Software Update”, then press ok/enter
  4. Press enter on “Check Now”
  5. Highlight and Select “Update Now” by pressing ok/enter
  6. Wait for the update to complete
  7. Once the update is complete, you will be able to change the Roku remote settings by following the “Changing Remote Setting to CEC” process outlined above
